In FY 2010, 7,729,120 trips utilized portions of the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor
The North Carolina Department of Transportation's 10-week suspension of midday passenger-train service between Charlotte and Raleigh, first announced last month, begins Monday.
The suspension affects Amtrak’s trains. Norfolk Southern Railway will be reconditioning tracks, signals and bridges along the corridor. All work is scheduled for completion April 21.
Crews will perform the work Mondays through Thursdays. The midday service, which Amtrak launched last May, will not operate during the construction. No alternate transportation will be provided.
Friday and weekend service at midday will operate on a modified schedule.
The morning and evening trains will run on modified schedules.
Schedule information is available by calling (800) BYTRAIN.
North Carolina’s Amtrak trains are sponsored by the N.C. Department of Transportation, and funded by the state and passenger fares.
The Southeast High Speed Rail Association (SEHSRA) is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit coalition of citizens, businesses, and community organizations that educate and advocate for the improvement and expansion of fast, frequent, and reliable rail service linking the Southeast.
